Hougang United notched their second successive win with a 2-1 victory over Geylang United in an evenly-contested match which was settled by a stoppage-time winner from their talismanic winger, Jordan Webb.

Azhar Sairudin put the Cheetahs ahead before Jozef Kaplan looked to have earned his team a point, only for Webb to strike right at the death.

SINGAPORE--Two days after their 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Home United, Geylang United have ring in changes to the duties of their coaching staff. With immediate effect Prime League coach V Kanan will switch places with Mike Wong, who has been head coach of the club's S-League side since April 2009.

The club are currently rock bottom in the 13-team S-League table, having lost all their three matches since the start of the 2012 Great Eastern-Yeo's S-League.

Ever-improving Hougang United lifted themselves to a dizzying second spot in the Great Eastern-YEO’S S.League table after a clean 2-0 victory over under-fire Geylang United at Hougang Stadium on Saturday evening.

An early stunner by Jordan Webb and a late Ignatius Ang header did the job for the Cheetahs, but truth be told, the winning margin could well have been a bigger one, such was their dominance.

This was, in fact, a game that saw plenty of scoring chances for both sides – and in particular a bubbling Webb.

After scoring in the past two games, the Canadian hotshot almost did it again with less than 30 seconds on the clock as he shot into the side netting following an Ante Barac through ball.

Webb was not to be denied six minutes later, though.

Fast off their blocks, the Cheetahs threatened their visitors just inside the first minute when midfielder Ante Barac slid Jordan Webb through but the latter’s shot failed to hit the target.

It was not long before Hougang’s dominance in the early stages of the game paid off. In the 7thminute, Azhar Sairudin picked out the lively Webb with a cross-field pass and the winger received the ball skilfully, before swiftly cutting inside onto his right foot and curling a shot past the hapless Yazid Yasin into the top corner. Hougang continued to dominate possession but failed to capitalise on their chances. Ante Barac shot just wide from the edge of the box, two minutes after the opener.

Two weeks without any football action from Hougang United since the 3-0 thumping of Courts Young Lions has had the Hougang Hools in a state of withdrawal; but nonetheless Saturday is approaching and we can't wait to get ourselves onto the terraces again and into the thick of action.

Geylang United's arrival at the Hougang Stadium or what fans affectionately call it as the "Cheetahs Den" is nothing short of a derby especially when both teams are equally pitted and have beaten each other in stunning fashion last season.

Last March, Geylang put 2 goals past Hougang in a space of 15 minuntes after the Eagles trailed by a goal down and the game ended 2-1 in favour of the Eagles; and then in June delivered a punishing 2-0 win against the Cheetahs.

But then Hougang United have had their moments of glory when in September the Cheetahs returned Geylang United the favour by scoring 2 goals after a goal behind. Hougang whilst playing with only 10 men and a penalty saved clawed a comeback in the dying 10 minutes to lay claim a famous 2-1 victory.

This time however, both teams find themselves in unfamiliar spots.

Geylang 0-1 Hougang

By JustSports

Geylang continued their poor pre-season form with a third successive loss to S-League rivals Hougang. Hougang were from the start of the game, controlling the ball posession thanks in part to Geylangs lack of pressing.

On the 13th minute, Hougang were rewarded when a diagonal cross from the left side was knocked in on the half volley past the keepers lefthand side. The goal was a testament of the how Hougang´s widemen, led by Jordan Webb, were winning the one-on-one battles down both flanks.

The second half didn´t see much improvement from a Geylang side struggling for goals this pre-season, who only managed a single shot on target in the whole 90 minutes.

If pre-season is anything to go by, then Geylang will struggle this season. As for Hougang, they continue to try and play their dynamic brand of football led by Jordan Webb. If he performs as well as he did in the 2011 season, and pre-season suggests so, then Hougang United may struggle to keep him past this season. - (SOURCE)

Hougang United are making the habit of breaking records.

After Jordan Webb became the club's record scorer in a single season with 16 goals, the Cheetahs notched another milestone in front of 759 fans at the Jalan Besar Stadium last night.

They defeated Geylang 2-1 to become the Hougang team, since their debut in the S-League in 2006 under the name SengKang Punggol, to beat every team in the league in the same season.

"This was a great victory," said Hougang assistant coach Hasrin Jailani.

Match Preview: Geylang vs Hougang

Hougang United FC return to the S-League after their run in the RHB Singapore Cup saw them narrowly missed out to the Japanese side on a night that delivered a 5 goal thriller.

Nonetheless, the Cheetahs have still remained up beat about gunning for the 3rd place when they face-off the french team of Etoile FC in November.

Okay back to business. Curiously this season, Hougang seem to folly against the Geylang side.

In March, the Cheetahs took a 1-0 lead when Jordan Webb volleyed in the goal early in the game but Geylang's Korean striker put two within a 15 minute window to give the Eagles a 2-1 score line.

When these 2 sides met up in March at the Bedok Stadium, it seemed to be that the Cheetahs were the favourites to win but that did not happen as the Eagles scored 2 goals within a 15 min window to deliver Hougang United a painful suckerpunch who were leading 1-0 until the 50th min when the Cheetahs' defenses caved in. The Eagles soared through that evening with a well deserved 2-1 victory.

This time round Geylang United make their way to the den of Hougang Stadium and Cheetah fans will definitely welcome them with open arms and vocal charms; to help them Eagles ease their minds during the 90mins of play.

Coach Aide Iskandar and his lads will travel to Bedok Stadium with boost from their last win and see off the Eagles.

Geylang United are finding themselves in a similar fashion as it was with the Cheetah's in our earlier matches. 3 straight defeats. But for Hougang United, the win against the Young lions will certainly be a start for building a good run.

Centre back Ratna Suffian who was featured in the last match after his absence from suspension was certainly the rock of Hougang's defense, and not the least shy is his Japanese counterpart Fumiya Kobayashi. Both have been instrumental in shielding off the Young Lions' attacks.
