The dead lock came at the 30th min, Fadhil Salim was badly fouled in the box after clearing a cross. Syed Fadhil picked the loose and from at the edge of the box fired in low volley past a cluster of players and into the bottom right of the goal. All this happening while Fadhil was still down. (Hullo Ref!?)
The injured custodian was then subbed by Ameerul . The Prime League keeper made his bebut appearance for backup keeper Ridzuan Fatah Hassan who's also out due to a damage ligament.
Geylang United up 1-0 at half time.
The second part of the show seemed promising as the Cheetahs plough on with grit but however, in vain. Jordan Webb's threat on the right wings seem to contribute to some of Geylang's defensive scares, but the lack in sharp shooters upfront also meant the Cheetahs squandered a few chances for themselves.
10 min after the restart, the Canadian and his trademark charges wriggled way past the Geylang left back and cut a cross back in the path of Fazli Jaffar just outside the penalty box, the left footed winger then blasted the ball above the crossbar.
In the dying minutes, Hougang United's lapse of concentration delivered the Eagles their back to back victory on a silver platter. Korean striker Kim Jae Hong connected with a pass from midfield, his through allowed him to get past Hougang's central defenders; and with only the keeper to beat, slotted in the second goal on the night.
Generally plain o disappointment for me. But that's the way it is. Hougang United have only to reflect and to look forward to this Thursday when they travel to Toa Payoh to face off with the Balestier Khalsa. :)
Aide Iskandar delivers the verdict.
“We generally had a lot of the ball, but I am disappointed with the two goals we conceded,” remarked the former Singapore skipper.
“We have done well so far, especially at home, but we lacked the finishing touch today.
“Ameerul stepped up well to take the place of Fadhil, and I hope to get (Mamadou) Diallo back for the next game against Balestier this Thursday.
“We’ve been a little unfortunate with injuries lately, but this is a team of 20 players, so everyone must play his part.”
