1930hrs, Jurong West Stadium
Match Attendance: 1,512
Soccer, like love, so unpredictable and yet so compelling. Rain or shine the show had to go on, and that was what happened for me. It was pouring when I left for Jurong West but fortunately, the rain stopped in time for the starting whistle.
At the start, Gombak and Hougang were already in a grapple. Both sides immediately show casing their strengths in defensive (Bulls) and offensive (Cheetahs).
The first 10 minutes looked fine for Hougang United but a tussle in the penalty box gave Gombak their chance to extend their lead quickly but the spot kick went wide left. A missed penalty is always a welcomed blessing for this relieved Cheetah fan.
Glad to see Diego Gama back in the game and leading the attacks. He came close to scoring following some neat passing between Diallo and Jordan. Diallo sent in a long ball for the Brazilian to pounce but his run was called for offside by the linesman - dressed in pink. Argh. :)
However, Diego Gama's efforts resulted in the relapse of his hamstring and he had to be rested for the rest of the game. Midfielder Syaqir Sulaiman replaced the injured Brazilian. Get well Diego!
Half Time 0-0
Gambak always looked the more threatening side and showed their battle horns in the opening second half. Korean midfielder Park Kang Jin launched a low shot but equal to his efforts was Cheetah's keeper Fadil Salim's diving safe who made sure the ball was parried just around the goal post.

In the closing 15 mins, Hougang United began pressing for goal. Diallo found space in front after some penetrating runs but his shot went well wide.
By this time, Jordan Webb took it upon himself to probe the backline for it's weakest link and his reward in the 84th minute came from a miscommunication between the Gombak United keeper and a defender.
The keeper came out of his line and fumbled a pass between him and his last man, and Jordan Webb snagged the loose ball and loped it into an open goal. 4 goals in 8 games for the Canadian. :)
Hougang United records it's first away win. Confirm? Double confirm! Thank you very much!

Where were the U4U last night? Missed the atmosphere at the stadium when the best behaved supporters in the land are around..
ReplyDeleteThe guys had some difficulty in travelling to the other end of the island. Abit far lah. Others had work commitments. It so happened for this match that majority weren't available.
