Not bad a result for Hougang United bagging it's first 3 points for this season's match opener and a great welcome for this new HGFC fan blog.
The first half saw both teams equally pitted for possession in the centre of the pitch with some chances for both sides to score.
The second half saw Hougang pressing for their opening goal and ultimately their persistence paid off when midfielder Mamadou Diallo was tripped in the box. The ref pointed to the spot and the Rams defender Graham Tatters was send off in the process.
However, Brazilian striker Diego Gama de Oliveira ballooned his penalty and spectators were visually dissapointed.
With 10 men left, Woodlands Wellingtons defence seem to buckle under the waves of attack from the home side; and it was only in the last ten minutes that the Cheetahs finally found their mark, courtesy of a weak Butters header clearance. Diallo pounced on the loose ball to head home the goal.

Tampines Rovers vs Hougang United
Despite the penalty miss, the lads never gave up. That is what should characterize all Hougang United performances.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very good turnout for the first home game of the season and I was pleasantly surprised to hear the crowd joining us in some of the songs and clapping towards the end of the game.
I believe it is nothing more than opening day jitters and the team will definitely improve as the season progresses.
Let's all hope for a good result against Tampines on Tuesday.
