Hougang United had been drawn against Tanjong Pagar in the RHB Singapore Cup in the preliminary rounds - to be held between 14-21 May.

The draw, which was held in Bugis Junction, under a scorching Sunday afternoon sun, was held as a fan fare event, to reach to the Sunday crowd in one of the busy shopping areas of Singapore. Alongside with the draw, the show was graced by the S-League cheerleader, the Super Girls, a trio of football freestylers and also held a mini kickabout competition involving the St Andrews' Junior School students.

The draw was seeded in what we have seen the most unique way. To determine the seeds, a ball-juggling competition involving the remaining twelve S-League team representatives, excluding the Young Lions. The longest to hold up the ball was handed the first seed.

Hougang United was represented by the Cheetah's no. 16, Basit Hamid, who is well known to play sepaktakraw during his school days. Basit managed to hold up the ball, in 4 1/2 minutes, and awarded Hougang the third seed.

Basit's hardwork was fruitful, as Hougang was handed a preliminary round tie against the Jaguars, who are given the home advantage at Queenstown Stadium.

The winner of the tie, proceeds to the quarter finals, where they meet the winner of the tie, between Gombak United and Harimau Muda B.
