Hougang will start off their knockout stages, and a possible dream run to League Cup glory, when they travel to the Choa Chu Kang Stadium to face the recently resurgent Singapore Armed Forces FC this coming Saturday.
Right after the three week break in June, Hougang had turned into a more exciting outfit, by going on a six-game unbeaten streak. However, that was ended by Home United last Wednesday, after a second-string line up went down 2-0 against the Protectors.
Nenad Bacina chose to take a precaution by resting his aces, due to the fast coming, and close proximity of days of each fixture. Ante Barac, Fazli Jaffar, Fazly Hasan, Basit Hamid, Hasree Zais and Fadhil Salim should be fully refreshed and resurgent to face the Warriors. However, Hougang will have a slight worry in missing Stanislave Vidakovic for the long term, due to his knee injury.
Beating the Warriors is no easy task. Like Hougang, the Warriors have also improved their performances on the field. The Warriors are unbeaten in Choa Chu Kang since June. They have two new signings in centre-half Marin Vidosevic and Aliff Shaffein, whom they signed from Tanjong Pagar. However, the biggest threat comes from their lethal front two, Mislav Karoglan and Fazrul Nawaz.
The Hougang faithfuls will remember that the same opposition faced them in the same stage in last seasons' dream run to the League Cup Final. The much fancied SAF FC were expected to displace the Cheetahs. However, goals by Diallo and an extra time winner from Basit Hamid, shocked the Warriors, and that will come down as one of their amazing feats in their history.
Will history repeat itself at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium. Or will the Warriors disrupt the Cheetahs advance to the semi finals??
