Hougang will continue their quest of glory when they take on the Protectors – for the second time in eleven days at Hougang Stadium.
The Cheetahs had already qualified for the knockout stages, after defeating Courts Young Lions on Sunday and subsequently sending them into the newly formed plate competition.
Nenad’s charges’ morale is on sky high, with players hitting on top form together on the right moment. Apart from a disappointing defeat against Gombak in the Singapore Cup, the Cheetahs’ current form is on six victories and a draw in their last eight matches, and currently enjoying their best form run in their history.
Things wasn’t so rosy back in May, after losing at home against the Young Lions, the Cheetahs were on a six game losing streak, and few were questioning coach Nenad’s tactics. However, the patience of the Hougang faithfuls has been slowly repaid with results.
Hougang has only one injury worry; Croatian defender Stanislav Vidakovic’s season might be over, after he is scheduled to have a knee operation this week. Besides that, Hougang’s most lethal weapon, Jordan Webb should be back against the Protectors, to take his place in the wings. Nenad would have a selection headache in the midfield section, to choose between Basit Hamid, Faizal Amir, Sobrie Mazelan or Fazli Jaffar in the wings, when all four have impressed during the last few games.
Hougang will only have one player to worry of, the current form of S-League top scorer Frederic Mendy. Scored a goal against Hougang in the recent outing, however, Mendy can be suspectible against robust defenders, and that’s when the tenaciousness of Hasree Zais, Fazly Hasan, Syaqir Sulaiman and Lau Meng Meng could come in handy to shrug off the Frenchman.
A victory for the Cheetahs, means they will top Group C, and face their potential opposition in Brunei DPMM or the Singapore Armed Forces. Hougang will be looking forward to enjoy another dream run in the S-League, and hopefully take their place in the finals come August 11.
Come on Hougang! NO Surrender! (SOURCE)
