“In certain parts of the games we didn’t play well, but the most important thing for us, even if sometimes when you’re not playing well, was to collect three points,” said the former Singapore Armed Forces captain.
He also reserved special praise for Jordan Webb, who has now scored 3 goals from 3 games this season, saying that, “He is the one who can create something extra in this team.”
However he warned the youngster against resting on his laurels and that he has to continue to strive to be better.
Ignatius Ang came on to score the second goal to settle the tie and when queried on what his instructions were to Ang before sending him on, Bacina, rather candidly replied, “The instructions were very simple of course. Go inside and score a goal.”
The win keeps Hougang United undefeated and second in the table however Bacina warned against complacency and said that his team has to learn to deal with the rising expectations of the club. Most important of all in achieving that, he said, was to “approach [it] one game at a time and not look too far”.
Geylang United coach Mike Wong on the other hand lamented the timing of the first goal, citing that “it came too fast” and his players were “not settled”.
He went on to say that his team “came into the second-half and dominated the game” for certain spells but Hougang went “on the counter and scored their second goal on the counter” which then left little room for a fight back.
However, he praised the efforts of his team saying that, “I am glad today we tried, although not very successful, but at least we tried,” and ended off by praising his goalkeeper Yazid Yasin for keeping them in the game.
“Obviously I have always mentioned that Yazid is ‘Mr reliable’. He will always keep you in the game.”
The loss unfortunately leaves Geylang United without any points for the season and they will seek to make an impact in the league against Home United next week.
